Pencil Sketches

What is the Raccoon Draws series?

During the summer of 2001, my friend Rosco had given me his brand new sketchbook, which had the words "DRAW IN ME" stencilled on the front cover. Unfortunately, I ended up holding onto the book for several weeks, not realizing that Rosco was going to be moving away at the end of the summer. To make up for my faux pas, I decided I would do not one sketch, but a whole series of sketches scattered through his book.

The series was inspired by a joke in Tom Weller's book CVLTVRE MADE STVPID that poked fun at the old Walter Foster "How to Draw" book series. I just took a number of the titles on that list and began drawing a sketch every few pages based on it. Hopefully this made up for how many drawings from other artists Rosco didn't have a chance to get that summer. And apparently it's set the theme for the book quite nicely.
